What to look for in a good raincoat or rainjacket
The winter season is in full swing and people are starting to lock themselves indoors to protect themselves from the extreme weather. As the rain and wind are picking up people are searching for their tattered old macs, or buying new ones and either compromising on style or on functionality. But this doesn't have to be the case.
If you are in the market for a new raincoat there are important things you need to consider. The following article is to highlight the important traits to look out for and hopefully help you choose the perfect raincoat.

Take care of the fitting

Whether in an urban setting, or out in the wild, you should always select rainwear that is comfortable to wear. After all you may end up wearing it all day so comfort is vital. What will you be wearing with your raincoat? Do you need room for layers? Is it warm enough to wear over thin clothes? Obviously this is down to personal taste, but choosing warm slim fit raincoats may be ideal for use in a city, as carrying too many layers can be bothersome. Similarly they can be worn in formal and casual situations and can be dressed up or down while always looking smart.

    Durability does matter

When opting for a raincoat for yourself or for someone else durability is essential. Its all well and good buying a cheap raincoat, but the quality of the materials and workmanship makes all the difference. Not only will your rainwear have a much longer life when bought with durability in mind, but it will also benefit from having and maintaining the the style, colours, and functionality intended by the designers. There is nothing be more irritating than taking out your raincoat the next rainy season only to find it is no longer waterproof, it has lost its shape, it has changed colour, or is otherwise damaged.
    Colourful Rain jacket material

Material and colour of the raincoat

In the same vein, choosing the colour and the fabric suitable for your needs and to your own tastes is equally important. You want to be able to wear your raincoat with pride, potentially in rain hail or shine. Bright vibrant colours like red, yellow, green etc. are highly visible, either after dark or against the grey backdrops that accompany wintry weather. Also, bright colors affect your mood in a positive way, make you stand out from the crowd and are generally more fun. The fabric of the raincoat should of course be waterproof, but the finish is very important too. Is there a matte finish or a shiny one? Does the raincoat feel like plastic to touch or are the materials more natural feeling? A plastic raincoat will feel less durable that one made of a mix of materials, and will also be less comfortable to wear.
The next time you go to purchase a raincoat, think on these points, and consider one that should last you years, look and feel great and above all is just so you!
